Wanna guess which generation tips the worst? Before you start to point your finger at my former father-in-law (dude, you’re tipping with change?), you actually may be surprised with the answer.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About The Best (and Worst) Tippers:
- 👴BOOM! - We’ll go from first to last, based on a few different surveys. A whopping 87% of Baby Boomers tip every time they’re at a sit down restaurant. No idea if these survey results were taken at 4:30 p.m. or not. Apparently The Greatest Generation instilled something in them.
- 🤷Here We Are Now - Gen X ranks second, with 77% tipping every time. Not bad for a group of slackers.
- 🏆Participation Trophy - Millennials barely get a passing grade, tipping 60% of the time. However, 30% of them still tip 20% or more when they feel the service is bad.
- 📱Z for Zero - Finally, Generation Z does not disappoint, tipping 52% of the time. It should be noted that 6% of this demographic also admit to tipping less than 10% on the regular. Apparently they’re all a bunch of little Steve Buscemi's.
- ☕Great Service, More Money - Another recent survey shows that 35% of people across all generations tip 20% (or more) if the service is great.
🔥Bottom line: While there’s no data for other settings (ridesharing, fast casual, delivery) these numbers show an interesting trend in that financial etiquette is changing across time. There’s probably a very interesting research study waiting to happen as to why.
