It’s Electric! Minnesota Electricians Earn Top Dollars

Forget the best places to visit or the best restaurants. According to a new survey, Minnesota electricians earn the 8th most in the country!!! Shocking, right?

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts About Minnesota’s Electricians:

  1. ⚡ Sparky - Electricians in Minnesota earn an adjusted median annual wage of $87,813. For comparison, the national median is $60,240. The only states paying electricians more are Illinois, Hawaii, Oregon, Alaska, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Washington. North Dakota and New York round out the top-ten list.
  2. 💥 Voltage - Part of this can be attributed to location. Midwestern states have some of the best wages. Part of this is because of a lower cost of living relative to other coastal states.
  3. 🔌 Amps - Industry mix and union strength is the other important factor. Alaska is the fourth best-paying state for electricians and it has one of the highest unionization rates. Lower-paying states in the South have weaker labor unions and it just so happens that half of the 15th lowest-paying states are in the South.
  4. 💡 Ohms - The industry is a sausage fest. Women have consistently made up only 3% of the profession. That’s a trend throughout construction. Women account for 5% or less of carpenters, plumbers, roofers, and masons.
  5. 🗜️ Circuit Breaker - If this motivates you to start a career as an electrician, there’s good news. Electricians don’t require a four-year degree. It requires a trade school education or even an apprenticeship.

🔥Bottom line: If you’re an electrician or thinking about becoming an electrician, this is good news. We already knew our state’s economy was strong, but this is even better news for some of our blue-collar heroes.
