Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy everything else. Having loads of money won’t solve all your problems, but it will solve all of your current problems, giving you a whole new and different set of problems. But wouldn’t it be fun to try those problems on for a change? 😂
If you find yourself with a winning lottery ticket or the sole beneficiary of a rich relative you never knew (or, far more likely, if you bust your ass and do it yourself), here are some suggestions from the ultra rich on how to get the most out of all that phat cash.
Here are Five Fast Facts (okay, maybe suggestions) on how to spend your money, according to people who already have it:
- 📝 Have People For That - Hire people to do the stuff you don’t like. If you’re worth $1000 per hour, then spending $50 per hour for someone else to take care of things you don’t like (doing the dishes, laundry, trips to the DMV) is really not a big deal and removes a LOT of friction from daily life.
- 💲👪 Live Generously With Family And Friends - When you go out with family and friends, pick up the tab. Heck, book the best places AND pick up the tab. Don’t keep score or worry about paybacks - it’s about treating the people you love and enjoy and showing them you appreciate them. If you are really loaded, then cover things like college tuition, medical bills, or trip expenses.
- ❤️ Live Generously With Strangers - Some might argue that the reason some are given more is so they can help those with less. Find some worthy causes and go nuts. Local charities, religious organizations, relief agencies, whatever. Or how about random strangers? Make a habit of buying the coffee of the person in line behind you or covering someone else’s meal. You can afford it and it might mean the world to them. You might find that the habit of giving actually can buy you happiness!
- 🌎 Expand Your Horizons - It’s a great big incredible world, so go explore it! Fly first class, get the private tours, skip the lines and upgrade for comfort and convenience. And bring your favorite people along with you, too (covering the cost, of course)!
- 👍 Go All In - Whatever you do, go all the way. If you’re going to a show, get front row seats and a backstage tour to meet the star. If you’re having a great dinner, book a meet-the-chef experience. Don’t just go to the beach, visit a private island where the whole beach is yours. There are ways to upgrade pretty much anything to make it a better experience!
🔥Bottom line: Let’s be honest, most of us will never be ultra rich, moderately rich, or even pretty darn wealthy. But if you ever have that good fortune, you’ve got some tips on how to handle it. And hey, just because your bank account doesn’t have that many zeroes doesn’t mean you can’t treat your friends and family every now and then, or pay a small kindness to a stranger. Most of these tips say more about your mindset than your money, and can apply to any scale. Just think about it!
