When was the last time you got a very realistic sounding robocall, asked Alexa about the weather or a TV show, or ordered food at a drive-through? AI is everywhere, even if we don’t realize it!
Not all of it is Skynet waiting to happen, but there are some very real risks. Sure, maybe not a global near-extinction of humanity…but certainly a major change to our everyday lives and livelihoods!
Here are Five Fast Facts on AI replacing human jobs:
- 😨 How Many Jobs? - Recent reports suggest that AI may replace almost half of today’s American workforce, and over 300 million jobs worldwide in the next 5-10 years.
- 🍟 Fast Jobs - Exactly which jobs are at risk for being replaced depends on who you ask. Numerous fast food chains are already using AI in drive-throughs and kiosks all over. It’s always cheerful, always accurate, and upsells 4 times more than humans do! Wow, let’s hope no one teaches an AI how to sell used cars!
- 🔢 Numbers & Analysis Jobs - Any job working with number-crunching or analysis is at risk to AI. Things like banking, financial or investment analysis, tech jobs (especially programming or coding), legal, and accounting jobs all could see major impacts from AI because it’s so much faster to absorb and analyze vast amounts of data (even before the morning coffee)!
- 🎨 Creative Jobs - Believe it or not, creative jobs are at risk, too! Graphic designers, copywriting, advertising, and anything in media could see serious impacts, and some estimates of the amount of “news” generated by AI in the future reach as high as 90%. Let’s be honest, is it really even actual news anymore anyway?
- 🚜👷 Least Affected - Not everyone is likely to see huge impacts from AI, at least in terms of job replacement. Fields like manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare will always need major contributions or guidance from human judgment and intuition. Right, AI can’t exactly go places and make stuff without hands and feet. At least not yet…
🔥Bottom line: More and more concerns are being raised about the dangers of AI by the people who know it best. The CEO of ChatGPT, two of the three “godfathers of AI,” and many other experts have come out with strong warnings about the need to put some safeguards in place before things get out of hand.
While there’s no doubt that AI is going to impact all of us in the next few years, some industries will inevitably feel it more than others, and that means our Paychecks will feel it, too. Until better safeguards have been developed, let’s hope that AI will only be used to enhance human productivity rather than replace it.
