According to a recent survey, Americans are expecting gifts to the tune of over a hundred dollars worth. 🩷💸 But what if you can't afford it? Here's more! 

 

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Valentine's Day spending:

  1. 🍬 Treats For Your Sweet - Results of a recent survey revealed that Americans in relationships expect their partners to spend an average of $157.52 on Valentine's Day gifts.
  1. 🎁 Saving to Splurge - A portion of the younger generations (26% of Gen Z and 26% of Millennials) say they'd cut back on necessary expenses, like food and gas, to come up with the cash for a gift.
  2. 💔 The Shallow End - The survey also showed around 30% of respondents in relationship wouldn't celebrate Valentine's Day because of the cost. Roughly 10% of respondents also said they'd potentially break up with a partner if they didn't get a gift. Ouch!
  1. 🥂 Here's a Toast - Today, the average cost of a romantic dinner out on Valentine's Day is $121. If you're buying drinks, tack on an extra $33.
  1. 🫣 Sneaky Sneaky - Three out of 10 Americans will go into credit card debt over Valentine's Day spending. According to research, 43% of them will hide it from their partner.

🔥Bottom line: If you don't want to go into debt over a Hallmark holiday, why not do a low or no-cost date night? Cook something special together at home, cuddle up on the couch, and pick a free movie on Pluto's free TV channel. Who needs a five star restaurant?
