How do pickles enjoy a nice night out on the town? 🥒 They relish it. Duh. 🥳
Speaking of pickles, Trump’s got a major deportation plan on the menu and it’s got a lot of moving parts. How would it impact the Buckeye State’s economy? 🤔 While that’s yet to be seen, here’s the latest tea. 🫖
Here’s Five Fast Facts on deportations and the OH economy:
- 📑 Grand Plan - A recent research report took a look at potential impacts of Trump’s mass deportation plan to cut down on illegal immigration. According to the data, mass deportations could lead to as many as 740,000 fewer immigrants in the United States within Trump’s first year. In Ohio, that would mean as many as 9,700 immigrants would leave Ohio.
- 💸 Price Tag - The report also looked at the economic impacts of a major reduction in immigrants in the US. In 2025, it’s estimated that it would cost the country anywhere from 0.1 to 0.4% of the GDP. In Ohio, that translates to anywhere from $330 million to $1.3 billion in lost gross state product.
- 👥 Number Crunch - On a per capita scale, Trump’s immigration plans could cost each Ohio citizen anywhere from $28 to $110. Essentially, it can be looked at as a tax to pay for having fewer immigrants in the state.
- 🚨 A Bite Out of Crime - Across the nation, people have mixed feelings about Trump’s mass deportation plans. Supporters say it would help enforce immigration laws and remove those who have committed serious crimes. Many also feel that less immigrants would lead to more job opportunities for Americans.
- 🦺 Worker Woes - Some opposed to Trump’s plan say that deporting undocumented workers could have a negative impact on the economy. Industries that employ a lot of low-wage workers, like construction, hospitality, and child care, could suffer without immigrants in those roles, especially if they lose a large amount of staff at once.
🔥Bottom line: In addition to mass deportations, Trump’s plans for the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are also shaking things up. Just how many changes to the government will we see? Check out what we see in our crystal ball right here.
