High Paying Jobs Are Available...If You Can Handle The Stress

We’re always on the lookout for great jobs – which bring great Paychecks! – to share with all of you. Well, we’ve got a doozy for you this time…but it’s not for everyone. Here’s some interesting info about a high-paying but stressful job. Check it out!!!

Here are Five Fast Facts on Air Traffic Controllers:

  1. ✈️ The Job - Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) are the people talking in pilots’ headphones who help them take off and land safely. The public never sees them or hears them, but the millions of air travelers each year have their safety to thank for their efforts!
  1. 💰 The Dollars - So what’s the Paycheck? The entry level is a bit less, but an experienced ATC pulls down a cool $130k per year. We’d take that, how about you?
  1. 😰 The Need (And The Catch) - Part of the reason they’re paid so well is because there aren’t enough of them. There are currently about 14k ATCs across the country and one study showed 20% of them made “significant” safety errors. For example, there were 46 near misses in July of this year caused by human error. 🤯 Even worse, they’re overworked - there’s a shortage, with over 3,000 more ATCs needed. Perfect storm, anyone?
  1. ✔️ The Requirements - If you want to become an ATC, you have to meet a few requirements. You have to be a US citizen, younger than 31, have a few years of general work experience, speak English well, and a few other things.
  1. 😁 Don’t Worry - Despite all this, the American air traffic control system is still the best in the world, and the gold standard that others try to copy. Even with the near misses…they’re still misses, and that’s the bottom line! Statistically speaking, they are a tiny fraction of 1% of the number of flights for the year. So don’t freak out when boarding for your next trip. 👍

🔥Bottom line: This job is high stress, constant pressure, and not for everyone. But if you can handle this pressure cooker, you’ll bank a great Paycheck and know that you’ve genuinely helped keep a whole lot of people safe. The FAA only opens up job applications for short windows, so keep an eye on the website here if you want to apply.
