Heading to Costco? Think Twice Before Grabbing These Goodies

Ah, Costco. Land of pallet-sized wonders and oversized packages of everything you never knew you needed. 🛒 The question is, do you really need *that* much of one thing? 🧐

In some cases, going super-sized makes perfect sense. 💡 However, in other cases, you're better off buying what you need at the regular ol' grocery store or pharmacy

Here’s Five Fast Facts on what to skip on your Costco trip :

  1. 😶‍🌫️Squeaky-Clean - Depending on how often you wash your hair, buying those mega bottles of shampoo might not be the best idea. Hair care experts recommend switching things up every few months. If you're stuck with that big ol' bottle, you could be working with the same stuff for the entire year.
  1. 🍞 Flour Power - Even if you're a super-savvy baker, buying flour in bulk won't elevate you to Martha Stewart status. Unless you run a bakery or an at-home cookie business, using up a 25lb bag of flour before it goes bad won't be an easy task. Plus, you'll need to find an air-tight container large enough to store it all.
  1. 🤌 A Little EVOO - Once you open a bottle of olive oil, its freshness only lasts a couple of weeks. Grabbing a big bottle may save you a few pennies up front, but you could wind up throwing the rest away before you get to use it all. Opt for a smaller bottle instead.
  1. 🍅 Do You Have Any Grey Poupon? - Rounding out the food category of skip-able items: condiments. Unless you're throwing the biggest BBQ of all time, skip the mega-sized ketchup and mustard. These sandwich companions tend to sit out on the table longer than other food items, which is a recipe for speedy spoilage.
  1. 💊 I Got a Fever - Frequent headaches are a literal pain. You might be tempted to grab that industrial-sized bottle of Advil, but think twice. Over-the-counter meds have expiration dates of two years or less. Grab meds in smaller quantities so you can use them while they're still good.

🔥Bottom line: Inflation's got everyone looking for the best deals on groceries and necessities. While Costco offers a ton of bang for your buck in some areas, make sure to shop smart. The last thing you want to do is splurge on bulk items that won't last. Want to save money on clothing? Click here to see why second-hand is all the rage.
