Got a Safe? Here’s What to Keep Inside

If you don’t think you have anything important enough to stash in a safe, think again! And we’re not talking about your Beanie Babies. 😆🧸 Has anyone hit the jackpot by cashing them in? 🧐

Safes are great for keeping high value items and cash away from burglars, but wait! There’s more. 👉 When you keep all your important stuff in a safe, it’s one less thing you have to worry about in an emergency. 😅

Here’s Five Fast Facts on what to keep in your safe:

  1. 🪪 Lemme See Your ID - Your mom was right when she told you not to carry your Social Security Card in your wallet. It’s a real you-know-what to replace! Same goes for birth certificates, passports, and any other identifying documents. Throw them in the safe and you’ll always know where they are.
  2. 🏡 Under One Roof - Fire and weather-related disasters can strike without warning and cause major damage to homes. After the smoke clears, the insurance company will be one of the first calls you make. Keep your mortgage documents, homeowners insurance policy, and vehicle titles in the safe so they’re handy. You may also want to keep pictures of your home before the damage as well as receipts for any big ticket purchases (appliances, furniture, etc.).
  1. 💰 Bank On It - Along those same lines, keep your financial information in the safe, too. Any documentation on outstanding debts, investment accounts, retirement plans, and bank accounts should be in there. If you have to leave your house in a hurry, you only have to go to one spot to grab everything important.
  1. 🗝️ Keys to the Kingdom - Got a safe deposit box at your local bank? Keep the keys to it in your safe. While you’re at it, keep spare house, car, and shed keys in there, too. They’re the last thing you want a burglar to find while going through your kitchen junk drawers.
  1. 🩺 Health is Wealth - In an emergency situation, you may also need to gather your family’s health information. Put a list of your family doctors, medications everyone takes, and dosages in the safe. Make sure you also list contact information for your doctor’s office and pharmacy. PS - crooks love to steal prescription drugs, especially painkillers. It never hurts to lock them up.

🔥Bottom line: If you’re shopping around for a new safe, get one that’s fireproof! This way, your precious items are protected from crooks and the elements. Going on a group trip this summer? Save your sanity and your wallet by checking out these top tips before you head out.
