When you think of people over 65 getting a post-retirement career one of the things that usually comes to mind is “Welcome to Wal-Mart.” But that’s not entirely true. It also sounds like a living hell. Thankfully, there are a variety of jobs that are perfect for retired baby boomers.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Jobs for Baby Boomers:
- ✏️ Consultant - It’s a good bet that if you’re retired, you’re an expert in your field. Take that knowledge and become a consultant! Usually the jobs are contractual or a project basis, so you won’t be locked down all day, every day.
- 🧑🏫 Instructor - Similar to consulting, trade schools are always looking for instructors with expertise in a specific industry. Trade skills are always in demand and you can help pass on your extensive knowledge and maybe even have some fun.
- 🏘️ Realtor - This is another role that doesn’t require a daily commitment. You can take on as many clients as you like, when you like. You’ll need to qualify for a license, but once that’s out of the way, you’re good to go.
- 🚌 School Bus Driver - (There’s a school bus driver shortage and some school districts are even paying candidates to get the necessary training. Drive twice a day and you’re done!
- 🧾 Tax Prep - Sure, taxes are due once a year, but if you have strong bookkeeping or accounting skills, there’s a simple way put those skills to use for people who have the abilities.
🔥Bottom line: For retirees, the working options aren’t as limited as you might have thought. The skills they’ve developed throughout their various careers are still valid. It also shows that retirement doesn’t mean watching Murder She Wrote reruns and yelling at Chinese Spy Balloons.
