This year, we’re not settling for scraps! We’re walking into 2025 knowing our worth and adding tax, baby. 💅 We won’t get out of bed for less than $100K and that’s on Kris Jenner. 👸🏻
While we’re waiting for Andy Cohen to invite us to be the next Real Housewives, we’re plotting and scheming how to get a raise at the day job. 💸 Us cul-de-sac queens deserve it all.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to negotiate your salary:
- 🧑💻 Rev Your Research - Before you schedule a meeting with your boss, think about how much money you want and do some research to make sure it’s realistic. Check out the Bureau of Labor Statistics and websites like ZipRecruiter for average salary ranges in your field. If friends, family, and people in your network have a similar job, ask if they’d feel comfortable sharing what they make.
- 📝 Proof Is in the Pudding - The next step? Gather your proof for deserving a fatter paycheck. Your boss won’t give you a raise for nothing! Create a list of your successes, like a resume. Make sure to include hard data and numbers whenever possible, such as how many products you’ve made, customers served, etc. If you’ve solved any big problems, include those too.
- ⌚ Early Bird - When it comes to scheduling your More Money Meeting, the earlier in the year the better. The longer you let things go, the more resentful you might get. Also, raises likely need to be approved by a whole chain of command, which doesn’t happen overnight. The sooner you get the ball rolling, the quicker you’ll get an answer.
- 📆 Perk Alert - No luck getting an extra buck? You may want to switch up and ask for more benefits. If your employer hits you with “it’s not in the budget,” you might be able to squeeze out some extra PTO, a more flexible or hybrid work schedule, or new professional development opportunities.
- 👋 I’m Outta Here - Hitting a wall in the salary department? It might be time to try somewhere new. In many cases, people who move to different companies get a much bigger bump in pay than if they stayed put. When interviewing, don’t be afraid to increase your base salary expectations to (at the very least) what you’d want if you stayed at your current gig.
🔥Bottom line: You know what we’re NOT doing this year? Getting a case of burnout. We’re saving our precious energy for friends, family, and fun. Can we hit the snooze button until noon? Probably not. If you’re feeling a tingle of dread, check out this article on how to keep burnout at bay (the SMART way).
