Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new flying taxis:
- 📑 Flight Plans - The new facility is Joby's first scaled manufacturing facility. The site, near Dayton International Airport, takes up 140 acres. The facility is also close to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratories HQ.
- 🛫 Catch a Ride - Joby’s air taxis are designed to transport a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. They can fly a max range of 100 miles and have a "quiet noise profile." These new planes will be placed in aerial ride sharing networks starting in 2025.
- 👷 Workin' for the Weekend - As Joby expands operations, the Ohio Valley site could grow to support 2,000 jobs.
- 🤝 Friends in High Places - The project is supported by partnerships with big-name companies like Uber, Delta, Intel, and Toyota.
- 💸 A Little Help - According to Joby, the state of Ohio and affiliated political organizations are pledging $325 million in incentives and benefits to help develop the new factory.
