Fire Up Those ATVs! The Scoop on PA's New Motorized Recreation Area

Excuse me ma'am, but that ride doesn't look...street legal. 🏎️ Looking for a new place to go off-roading in the Keystone State? You're in luck! 🤠

PA just announced their plans to turn 5,600 acres of land into a motorized recreation area in the Weiser State Forest in Schuylkill and Luzerne counties.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new rec area:

  1. 🏍️ Out With The Old - The new site will be called the Catawissa Recreation Area. It includes land that used to be Paragon Adventure Park, an off-highway vehicle park that closed more than 10 years ago.
  2. 😍🌳 We Heart Nature - This project is brought to you by $700 million snagged by Gov. Wolf. It's part of the 2022-23 budget for nature-related plans throughout PA. The funds also go towards the development of three new state parks. Locations of the new park are TBD and will be announced later this year.
  3. 💵 Moto Money - Motorized outdoor recreation puts about $350 million into PA's economy every year.
  4. 🦗 Patience, Grasshopper - The Catawissa Recreation Area is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. And don't try to pop a wheelie there any time soon, because rangers will be patrolling in the meantime.
  5. 💣 Mine Your Business - Plans for the new area also include opportunities to manage natural resources, restore water quality, and rehab abandoned mine lands in the area. Which is great, because running over those on your scooter would be #horrifying.

🔥Bottom line: A new place to go off-roading into the PA sunset? Sign us up! 🙋🏻‍♂️2024 can't come soon enough and we're getting our rides ready. State parks and recreational areas are a ton of fun for families and boost the local economies in the area. Just make sure you watch out for those land mines!

Will we catch you off-roading at Catawissa?
