Three Wisconsin airports are about to get an overhaul after landing (get it?) a big chunk of federal money.
Here’s Five Fast Facts Wisconsin Airport Grants:
- ✈️ What Airports? - A total of $23.5M has been awarded to Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), the Appleton International Airport (ATW) and the Rhinelander-Oneida Airport. The money will go toward upgrading their terminals, taxiways, and runways.
- 🛬 But Wait, There’s More - On top of that, The Wisconsin State Block Grant Program gets $1,768,500 to purchase land for approaches as well as safety upgrades.
- 🛩️ How Much? - The split breaks down with ATW getting $8,129,416, MSN getting $6,605,910 and Rhinelander-Oneida getting $7,074,515.
- 🪰 Why Them? - The airports are in smaller regions and do not have the large infrastructure of airports in cities like Milwaukee, so federal funding is needed for these airports.
- 🕊️ Who Pays? - The money came from the annual government funding bill for 2023 and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.
🔥Bottom line: Air travel is already a nightmare, so reducing that nightmare through a variety of upgrades definitely is a smart move and good for Wisconsinites. It’s also nice that three of our smaller airports are getting a cut, making air travel a bit more reasonable for everyone in the state.
