Here’s Five Fast Facts on the 2023 PA Election:

  1. 🧑‍⚖️ The Supremes - Voters will decide who fills an opening on the PA State Supreme Court after the death of Justice Max Baer last September. His passing shifted the court from a 5-2 to a 4-2 Democratic majority. Facing off for the open spot are Daniel McCaffery (D) and Carolyn Carluccio (R).
  1. ⚖️ Super Superiors - Over on the PA Superior Court side, two judges are up for retention elections. Judge Vic Stabile (R) is hoping for a second term. President Judge Jack Panella (D) seeks a third. Two additional Superior Court seats are also up for grabs due to a couple of retirements. On the Republican side, Maria Battista and Harry Smail want the spots. On the Democrat side, Jill Beck and Timika Lane are in the running.
  1. 💺 Commonwealth of Knowledge - Another seat up for grabs is the vacant Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court spot.  Judge Kevin Brobson (R) left the seat open when he was elected to the state Supreme Court back in 2021. Candidates in the running are Megan Martin (R) and Matt Wolf (D).
  2. 🗳️ Everything Else - Although voters might see a question or two pop up on their local ballots, no statewide ballot measures are in the mix this year.
  3. 💌 Out of Office - If you'll be out of town on Election Day, the deadline to apply for a mail or absentee ballot is 5pm on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. Return your ballot by 8pm on Tuesday, November 7th.

🔥Bottom line: If you're in Philly, you get to vote for the city's 100th mayor! Candidates are former City Councilmembers Cherelle Parker (D) and David Oh (R).
