Governor Evers just announced another $15M grant for childcare, this time looking to attract more workers and cover the cost for working Wisconsinites.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Evers’ New Childcare Grant:
- 🛝 Work Together - The grant directs the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to work with 11 different workforce development boards.
- 🧸 More and More - They’ll focus on attracting new childcare workers, starting new childcare businesses, and help existing childcare businesses cover the cost of watching their own workers’ children. That’s like childcare Inception.
- 🖍️ New and Improved - It also expands on a program from earlier in the year that allows employers to reimburse childcare costs for their employees.
- 🎒 Come and Learn - The money also covers training costs for up to 500 unemployed or underemployed people interested in careers in childcare.
- 🏫 Basic Addition - The money comes from a U.S. Department of Labor grant, NOT the massive surplus the state is currently hoarding. You knew I was going to say that, didn’t you?
🔥Bottom line: More childcare AND more childcare workers? You aren’t dreaming! Just about every working parent with young kids needs some form of childcare and we all know it’s expensive AF. It’s one of those situations that lifts a burden that allows employees to do their jobs better, happier, and longer.
