Eight States Plan To Phase Out Gas Vehicle Sales

The day many have been dreading is coming and it’s closer than you think. At least nine states are planning to end gas vehicle sales over the next 10 years. The end times are truly here.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About The Gas Vehicle Phase Out:

  1. 🚗 Eight Ball - Eight states (and a certain District) are following California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) Rule that requires automakers and car dealers to sell an increasing number of zero-emissions vehicles between 2026 and 2035.
  2. 🚙 The List - The states are Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Virginia, and Washington DC. They’ve adopted ACCII for light passenger vehicles.
  3. 🚘 There’s More - Connecticut and Maine are considering the measures. Colorado, New Mexico, Delaware, and Minnesota have partially adopted some of the standards.
  4. 🛻 Calm Down - Before you rage post in all caps, the regulations only prohibit the sale of new passenger vehicles starting in 2035. They do not, repeat: do not force you to give up ownership of older models. So your ‘67 Buick is still safe, Bill.
  5. 🚨 Relax, For Real - Residents of those same states can still buy used gas-powered vehicles in the state and there’s nothing in the regulation that stops you from buying a new gas car in a state without the ban and then registering it in the state that has one.

🔥Bottom line: On the surface, this may sound catastrophic for people who hate EVs. That is, until you read the finer points of the regulation and then realize it’s not the Automotive Apocalypse that the Outrage Crew is pushing.
