Does The IRS Have Your Money?

Don’t you love it when you find a twenty in your jeans pocket that you had forgotten about? Well, the IRS is holding onto $1 billion in unclaimed refunds from 2021, and it’s just sitting there waiting for people to come get it. But if you don’t claim it by April 15th of this year, that money disappears faster than pizza at a pot party!

Here are Five Fast Facts about unclaimed tax money:

  1. 🤝 RRC Is Your Bougie Friend - The IRS sent out $2.4 billion to over 1 million taxpayers who were eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit but just didn’t claim it. If that was the only credit you missed, you should have received the payment back in January.
  1. 🤯 How Much?? - The average amount for this credit was around $900, with a max of $1,400. Enough for a cool new gadget…or a couple dozen eggs!
  1. 👀 But Wait, There’s More - The RRC isn’t the only credit that a lot of people missed. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), for example, could be as much as $6,728 for some folks!
  1. ⏱️ Deadlines - To claim any potential missed credits, you’ll have to file a return by April 15th. Miss it and say goodbye to that sweet, sweet refund.
  1. 💨 No Filing, No Refund - The IRS says there’s over $1 billion in unclaimed refunds for 2021, too. That’s money just sitting there waiting to be claimed – if you don’t ask, you don’t get. File that return!

🔥Bottom line: Check if you’re owed some cash! File before April 2025, or that money goes bye-bye. Don’t let the IRS keep your dough! If there’s one thing DOGE has done, it’s shine the light on just how well the government spends our tax dollars! They’d be much better off in your hands, don’t you think?
