Do You Really Need All Those Subscriptions?

It’s a subscription-based world these days and we’re just living in it. 📦

From meal delivery memberships to premium photo editing apps that snatch your waist, it seems like we’re all on the hook for at least a few monthly payments. 🎣

But hey, there’s no shame in getting rid of a subscription or two, especially if it’s something you’re no longer using. Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone you FaceTuned all of your vacation photos. 🤭

Here’s Five Fast Facts on managing your monthly subscriptions:

  1. 🖊️ Sign Me Up - We Americans sure love our subscriptions. According to recent data, the average American has roughly 4.5 subscriptions, with streaming services being the most popular. We also pay an average of $924 a year in subscription costs.
  1. 🙈 Out of Sight, Out of Wallet - Autopay is great if you tend to forget when your bills are due. However, the “set it and forget it” mentality is a big part of why subscription companies are so successful. It’s easy to forget you’re paying for something you’re not using, especially when it’s not a big ticket item. But remember, it all adds up!
  2. 🤔 Keepin’ It Real - Not sure whether to cut the cord or stay on board? Time to ask yourself some honest questions. First, what’s the purpose of the subscription? Is it necessary (like identity protection or credit monitoring) or is it strictly for entertainment? Make a list and try to whittle it down to only what you need and can truly afford.
  1. 🍬 A Little Treat - If you’re looking to save more money but can’t bear to part with your favorite subscription, don’t sweat it. Giving up something you really love can make you feel sad or resentful. Instead, look at where else you could cut costs so you can keep your treat. If the subscription allows, you could also pause it for a while and pick back up when you have the cash.
  1. 🗓️ Track Star - Can’t remember when your subscriptions renew? Put a little note in your calendar to remind yourself. Revisit your choices each time that renewal comes up. Cancel anything you haven’t used or tend to forget about.

🔥Bottom line: How far would you go to save a buck? Would you give up your comfy cozy home to squat in an abandoned building? No, that’s not the apocalypse talking. It’s “freeganism!” Wondering what that is? Read all about the extreme savings trend here
