Deck the Halls With…Everything

Americans may be complaining about inflation, but it certainly isn’t stopping them from spending unholy amounts on Christmas and holiday decorations, including the inflatable kind you hate that’s in your neighbor’s yard.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Christmas decoration spending:

  1. 🎅 Ho-Ho-WOAH - Americans are expected to spend $7.80B on Christmas decorations this year alone. Even more surprising, experts expect that number to hit $9.66 by 2028. Wisconsin had a $5B budget surplus in 2022, which means we’re spending the same amount as a whole state collects in taxes!!!
  2. 🎄Rockin’ Around - This year, we’re expected to spend a total of $984M on real Christmas trees and $1.01B on artificial trees.
  3. 🎁 Grinches - It gets crazier. A recent survey shows that 49% of Americans won’t spend money on Christmas decorations. To put it another way, half of America is responsible for that jaw-dropping amount.
  4. 🌟 Wish List - Further breaking down the data: the average American spends $269 on Christmas decorations. That same amount of money will get you a new set of Airpods Pro.
  5. 💡 250 Strands of Lights - Getting those decorations set up isn’t cheap either. A minimal display on an average sized house costs anywhere from $100 - $300. That amount can head north of $1,000 for more complex designs. Imagine what it cost ol’ Clark Griswold

🔥Bottom line: It’s clear our anger over inflation is selective, because the data shows we’re willing to pony up for decorations...and pony up a lot.
