Coming Soon: New PA Laws for 2024

New year, new…laws? 🎉 Pennsylvania officials are prepping for the new year and that includes gearing up for the launch of new laws.

There's a little bit of something for everyone, even dog lovers! 🐶 We don't see any laws about mandatory pothole filling, but hey, a girl can dream. 🙇🏻‍♀️💭

Here’s Five Fast Facts on PA's new laws and initiatives:

  1. 🚌 Brake for Buses - If you think you can whiz by that stopped school bus, think again. The Enforcement of Failure to Stop for School Bus With Flashing Red Lights bill is taking things up a notch. Officials will better enforce the existing laws and slap on a pricey penalty for violators.
  2. 👨🏽‍🌾 Thanks, It's Organic - Through the Preferred Organic Program Trademark bill, you'll be able to tell which grocery store products are organic and locally grown. Anything with the "PA Preferred Organic" stamp of approval will meet the highest organic food standards and help customers pick out high-quality items.
  3. 🐩 Who Let the Dogs Out? - PA officials are revamping the current state dog law. They're making key changes to how licenses are issued, rules for kennels, and penalties against violators. The revised laws will also provide more clarification for definitions and penalties for "dangerous dogs," injuries to dogs, and selling of dogs.
  1. 🌊 High Water - Flood insurance is now required for more and more Pennsylvanians. The new Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force will help homeowners get information on available plans and help them choose one that fits. It'll also provide PA residents with information on premium discounts and other incentive programs.
  1. 🏘️ Moving In - If you're a student stationed at a PA military outpost, you'll be granted limited residency through the Military Personnel Residency bill. This also applies to dependents and civilian personnel.

🔥Bottom line: Some other bills are on the 2024 radar, including raising the minimum wage to $11 an hour and legalizing recreational marijuana. For both to pass, they'll need to get support from the House and Senate. Could this be the year PA goes "green?" We'll just have to wait and see! 👀
