What are you planning on doing with all those extra pennies? 🪙 Too bad you can’t plant them out back and grow them into a money tree. 🤪🌴
The next best thing? Taking your stash to a place that can turn those coins into cash! 💵
Here’s Five Fast Facts on where to exchange your coins:
- 🏦 Bank On It - If you’re an existing customer at your local bank, chances are they’ll exchange your coins free of charge. If you’re not a customer, they may still do it for a fee. Heads up: if your bank doesn’t have a coin counting machine, you might need to kick it old school and roll those bad boys up in wrappers.
- 💰 Extra Credit - Credit unions exchange coins, too. Just like banks, they’ll do it for free if you’re a member. Speaking of credit unions, they’re a great place to save your pennies. Many have higher interest rates in savings accounts than traditional banks. They also tend to have lower fees.
- 🤩 You’re a Star, Baby - Don’t feel like going to the bank? Look for a Coinstar machine at your favorite grocery store. You can also find Coinstar at big-box stores like Walmart. Simply dump your change into the machine, grab the receipt, and take it to customer service to get your cash. Fees are on the higher side, up to 12.5%. Some machines convert your coins to gift cards and waive the fee.
- 🛒 Super-duper! - If you’re in the Southeast, Publix supermarkets have their very own coin-counting kiosks. They work the same as Coinstar and the fees are around 10%. If you’re elsewhere in the USA, other big grocery chains may have their own machines as well. Some may even let you exchange for store credit.
- 🐊 Croc-a-doodle-DOO - Need some inspo on where to stash that cash? Why not throw it into your emergency fund? You could also use it to pay down debt. In more of a “treat yourself” mood? Go ahead, buy that new pair of Crocs. We’re not judging.Need some extra cash? Once you’re done couch cushion diving, take those coins to these places.
🔥Bottom line: You know what else you can do with your new cash? Haggle with a local over a used couch you found on Facebook Marketplace. It’ll look perfect in your man cave.
