If you’re like most people, you may be thinking about ways to pick up some extra cash to help pay the bills or maybe have a little bit extra for fun. 🤞 But maybe you don’t want to pick up a second actual job with set hours and paychecks.
Fear not, fellow cash-strapped American, you’ve still got options! ❗❗
Here are Six Fast Facts on under the table cash jobs:
- 🤔 Under The What Now? “Under the table” cash jobs are jobs that allow you to work when you want and receive cash for your efforts (usually on the spot). Cha-ching, baby!
- 🔍 Watching Other People’s Stuff - People are often willing to pay others to watch their stuff. Jobs like babysitting, pet sitting, house sitting, or dog walking are all great options. Pay ranges depend on the situation, but these can range anywhere from $15/hour up to $100/day. Not too shabby!
- ⛔ Do Things Others Won’t - Tasks like yard work, snow removal, and cleaning or painting houses need to be done regularly, but a lot of people would rather throw money at it than do it themselves. This also depends on the situation, but it’s possible you could be paid hundreds of dollars a day for some of these. Just be ready to work hard and maybe get dirty!
- 🤷 Do Things Others Can’t - Do you have a specialized skill set that you can leverage? Maybe you’re a handyman, a tutor, a mechanic, or seamstress. If so, you could bring in good money AND help others who don’t have your knowledge.
- ✨ Create Something - Maybe you’re a creator! Writers, graphic designers, bakers, musicians, gardeners…all of these are options if you do what you do well. Often, this is where a passion meets the ability to make some extra cash, and that’s kind of the best case scenario.
- 📝 Is It Legal? It’s perfectly legal…if you do it right. Jobs that pay in cash don’t withhold any taxes, and there’s no paper trail that gets reported to the IRS. Assuming you (and your payer) report 100% of the cash payments (ahem), then it’s all good. If you (and/or the payer) don’t report it, then you may be visited by some angry IRS agents about tax evasion. It’s your call, you have been warned!
🔥Bottom line: Cash jobs are great if you want immediate access to your earnings, and they are very simple. You do a thing, you get money, done. Before you jump into this sort of thing, make sure you understand if you need certifications – or, even if it’s not required, does it allow you to charge more – or other legal qualifications, if there are any local regulations or codes you need to adhere to, or anything else that might open you up for trouble with a potentially unhappy customer (or jealous competitor).
Side note: be aware that cash jobs would go away if CBDC ever becomes a required thing…
