Can Minnesota Be A Top 10 Vacation Destination?

We’ve discussed vacationing in Minnesota in the past, but tourism officials are making a push to make our state a top 10 vacation destination. Of course, there’s a hefty price tag attached.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About Minnesota Tourism Advertising:

  1. 🌲 Less and Less - Visits to the state have stalled out over the past 10 years, around $13.4B every year. Compare that to the degenerates in Missouri, who brought in $18.4B or even more insulting, Wisconsin’s $22.2B gains and you can see why we need to step up our game.😜
  2. 📉 Low Turnout - Tourism officials say we aren’t spending enough money on advertising and promotion. In fact, we spend less than $30M every two years. That puts us in 27th place (out of 40 states reporting) for tourism spending. In our nine-state region only North Dakota spent less!
  3. 📈 Big Bucks - Lawmakers are pushing for a budgetary increase of $47M annually, while Gov. Walz wants to go even bigger at $57.5M.
  4. 🛥️ Very Taxing - Just how important is tourism to our state? The head of Explore Minnesota says that each household in the state would pay an additional $625 in taxes without it.
  5. 🤞 Temporary Bump - While legislators figure out exactly how much will be spent on tourism, Walz has put two $12M boosts for the agency in his latest budget. One would be for attracting business, the other for general tourism.

🔥Bottom line: More people coming to the state and spending more money is a good thing no matter how you look at it. Efforts like this take time, so the bigwigs need to get it sorted out fast or more people will visit Wisconsin or worse, Missouri, instead.
