Buying and Selling Secondhand Clothing is All the Rage!

New clothing is cool, but have you ever been to a thrift store?! 🛍️👗 Macklemore even wrote a terrible song about it. We don't want to give him any credit, but secondhand clothing is so hot right now. 😅🔥

Besides looking like a million bucks after scoring a vintage dress, you can make a pretty penny by selling your used items, too. 🪙 Today, you don't even need to leave your house to flip your old duds. Use one of many online resellers and make bank fast!

Here’s Five Fast Facts on reselling and recycling clothing:

  1. 🚮 What a Waste - Recycling clothing is good for your wallet and the planet. Each year, 50 billion garments get sent to U.S. landfills. A ton of clothing also gets shipped off to developing countries where they sit in waste piles…forever. Kind of like your teenage son's laundry.
  1. 🛒 Zoomers Are Thrifty - According to a report from clothing reseller ThredUp, 58% of Gen Z-ers shopped for secondhand clothes in the last year and made at least one purchase online. Two out of five items in a Zoomer's closet were purchased secondhand.
  1. 🥇 Top Threads - Wondering which brands are selling like hotcakes on resale websites? Check your closet for anything Patagonia, Zara, Abercrombie & Fitch, Everlane, and Urban Outfitters.
  1. 😇 Keep It Honest - To get the most cash for your used clothing through an online reselling platform, it pays to be honest. If your items have flaws, make sure to mention them! Wash your clothes and get the wrinkles out before shipping your items off to get a five star rating.
  1. 👌 Easy Peasy - Companies like For Days make it super easy to trade in your used threads. For $20, you can buy a "Take Back Bag", fill it with your old duds, send it back, and get a $20 credit towards clothing listed on the site.

🔥Bottom line: Some of the new clothing out there is expensive AF. 🥴 Why not take a tip from the Zoomers and buy secondhand? You'll save big and look totally unique! Trading in your old threads for cash can help you quickly build that emergency fund, too. Speaking of emergency funds, we've got a great article on how to get one started
