Buying American: The True Cost of Foreign Products

Where was your shirt made? 👕 How about your car? 🚗 If you're like us, the items in your household are more well-traveled than an Instagram influencer.. 🥴🌴

Most of us like the idea of buying things made in the good ole US of A, but when it comes to holiday shopping and beyond, we just… don’t.🤷Ever wondered why?

Here’s what you need to know about those "Made in the U.S.A." tags. 🏷️

Five Fast Facts on buying American-made:

  1. 🏭 Unfriend that Foreign Factory - Working conditions in some foreign countries are unsafe (to say the least) and workers get paid peanuts. When you buy something made in the U.S.A., you support our economy, fair labor laws, and safe working conditions. Basically… if you give a d*mn about people, you should buy American-made.
  1. 🏞️ Clear the Air - U.S. manufacturing processes are actually MUCH more environmentally-friendly than the countries that produce most of our stuff. Those particular countries also have lower safety standards for producing things like kids’ toys, which means you could be introducing harmful toxins like lead into your home. Buying American-made means you can be much more sure a product is safe for your family.
  1. ✅ Quality Check - American-made products are typically of much higher quality and made from durable materials. Depending on what you're buying, the price tag may be higher, but your purchase will last way longer than the cheap stuff.

  2. 🫣 Loony Labels - Unfortunately, you can't always trust those "Made in the U.S.A." labels. Although the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) provides guidelines for what is truly “Made in the U.S.A,” they're not the best at enforcing them. The FTC often lets cheaters get away with falsely slapping on labels. Pro tip: don't take a label at face-value.

🔥Bottom line: Buying American isn't just good for the country, it's good for you and your family. Your stuff won't break as often and you're supporting one hell of a cause.
