BONUS! MN Vets Rewarded For Their Service!

Here’s some cool news: Governor Walz and the legislature just approved a bonus program for military veterans who served between 9/11 and August 2021.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Veteran Bonus:

  1. 🌪️ Bipartisanship? No Way! - That’s right, The Governor and his crew approved $25m worth. Twenty. Five. Million.
  2. 🚜 Chunk of Change - If you’re a qualifying veteran, you’ll get $600. No strings. For real. $600. If you served overseas, you can double that to $1,200. Again: for real. Gold Star families are eligible for $2,000, which is totally a no-brainer. That’s more than 40,000 people!
  3. 🐄 Cash and Carry - There’s a record-high budget surplus of $9.25B and there’s still a good chunk of it left. (But that’s a topic for another time.)
  4. 💵 Smart Strategy - The loans are also a way for the VA to reach out to vets who may not have enrolled for their other benefits and help those at risk. The nation continues to see high rates of homelessness and sucide amongst vets, so the VA hopes to reach 85% of eligible soldiers in our state.
  5. 🌽 Start Your Engines - Veterans can begin applying in July at a newly-created website.

🔥Bottom line: It’s easy for us to thank a veteran for their service or offer them our seat on a plane. But this program literally puts its money where the state’s mouth is, showing appreciation in the way vets deserve at the very bare minimum. It’s also a great way to help soldiers connect, stay healthy and safe. Now if we could just make it an annual thing…
