Best Jobs For College Students

If you’re a college student, you’re probably looking for money anywhere you can find it. You’re probably also strapped for time, trying to juggle your classes, homework, social life (ahem), and trips home to see your family (of course!). So it can be tough to find a job that fits in with all of that.

Good news: we’re here to help!

Here are Five Fast Facts on the best jobs for college students:

  1. 👍 The Biggest Consideration - The biggest thing most college students need in a job is probably flexibility. Classes happen at different hours of different days, so a job needs to fit in around the class schedule. Oh, and remember to allow time for studying! Good college student jobs will also allow for extra time away around finals. Your mother would be proud of you for prioritizing like that!
  1. 🏫 On Campus Jobs - Sometimes the best jobs are right there with you already. Some great options for jobs on campus include tutoring, campus tours, or working in the library, bookstore, or admin offices. These can pay anywhere from $13-25 per hour. Another great job is student staff in a dorm. They usually don’t pay as well by the hour, but will often also include discounts or free room and board, which could be thousands of dollars. Just be prepared to deal with – dare we say it? – stupid college students acting stupidly!
  1. 🍲🐶 Off Campus Jobs - If you’ve got transportation and want to get off campus for a bit, you’ve got loads of options. Restaurants, pet sitting, or nannying jobs can often be found around college towns, and they can pay anywhere from minimum wage up to $20/hour or more. And if you’re lucky, they’ll let you use their pool.
  1. 💻 Virtual Jobs - Nothing beats the convenience of virtual jobs! If working from your bed in your PJs is your jam, see if you can find a data entry, virtual assistant, freelance writing, or virtual tutoring job. If social media is your thang, try blogging or social media account management, or even brand ambassadorship. Virtual jobs like these can pay as much as $30-35 per hour (maybe more) if you can create audience growth and engagement. And who knows what doors that might open?
  1. 🧐 Internships - One of your best options is likely an internship. Internships are jobs that give you direct experience in the career field you’re hoping to enter after graduation. It also gives you first hand exposure to real professionals who can mentor you and teach you the skills you need to be successful. Even if you don’t work with those folks after graduation, they can still be a valuable part of your network and provide you with strong references to help you land your first real job. Not every internship is paid, so that’s something you’ll have to decide on, but if pay is involved it’s a no brainer.

🔥Bottom line: Most people work some kind of job while they’re in college. Especially nowadays, college is just too expensive for most people to avoid it! But there are so many options that it shouldn’t be a problem finding something that puts cash in your pocket while allowing you plenty of space to succeed with your school work. Not only will it be a decent Paycheck to get you through college, but it’ll prepare you for an even better one after you get out!
