Are You a Rude Co-Worker?

Uh oh, here comes Jane from accounting with her leftover fish again. 🙊 The afternoon office forecast calls for a stinky, hot breeze coming from the breakroom microwave! 😜♨️

A new survey from mega job search site Monster spilled all the tea on the cringiest things you can do as an employee. Are you guilty? 🫣

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the worst rude behaviors on the job:

  1. 😒 How Rude - What are the rudest of the rude behaviors in the workplace? According to Monster, here’s the top five: not cleaning up after oneself, gossiping, using inappropriate language, being unresponsive to messages, and consistently being late to meetings.
  1. 🖕 Behavior Brigade - If you think your workplace is rude-y patooty, you’re not alone. Monster’s research shows that almost a third (31%) of U.S. employees don’t feel that good manners are a priority in their company.
  1. ✅ Mind Your Manners - Being on time and good communication are a major must-have, according to data from Monster. Roughly 7 in every 10 workers said they’d consider quitting if their workplace didn’t have the right policies in place to nip bad behavior in the bud.
  1. 🥗 Word Salad - If you’re the class clown, it can be tough to know what’s offensive. Some people get bugged out by what you might think is harmless or playful language. Rule of thumb: if you have to question it, you probably shouldn’t say it. Avoid using slang, referencing movies and TV shows, and other colorful expressions unless you’re chatting with a buddy.
  2. ⌚ Right On Time - How long is too long to wait when returning a phone call or answering an email? The golden rule is 24 hours. Anything longer than that and you might get pinned for a Rude Jude. If something’s taking you a bit longer than expected, send a quick note or have a quick chat to let everyone involved know you're working on it.

🔥Bottom line: We can’t believe heating up smelly food didn’t make the list! Don’t you think heating up leftover trout in public is worse than showing up to a meeting a little late?
