Are Americans Getting Less Bang for Their Buck?

They say inflation's cooling, but it's still a real pain in the cheeks. 🍑😯 American families are still spending more on groceries than ever before. But now, it's not just sticker shock we're dealing with. In some cases, we're getting less bang for our buck. 😤

Shrinkflation (not to be confused with shrinkage) is when a company charges the same price (or more) for less of a particular product. 💰 A new report just revealed some pretty sad stats on top American products. 🤯

Here’s Five Fast Facts on where Americans get less for their money:

  1. 👹 Greedy Gremlins - A recent report shines a light on how companies can profit by providing less product to customers. The report focuses on revealing what it calls "greedflation," or when companies try to pull the ol' switcheroo and blame it on inflation.
  1. 🥷 Snack Snatchers - Snackers, brace yourselves. A family sized box of Wheat Thins crackers has reportedly shrunk by 12% in size by weight. Frito-Lay also reduced the size of a bag of Doritos by 5%.
  1. 🤧 The Tissue Issue - Kleenex Tissues shrunk the number of tissues per box by 7%. Charmin Ultra Soft Mega rolls of toilet paper downsized from 264 sheets per roll to 244 sheets. Thinking about buying generic brands to avoid shrinkflation? Think again. Walmart's Great Value brand was caught reducing their paper towels from 168 sheets to 120 per roll.
  1. 🥤 Dinky Drinks - Pepsi had the audacity to replace their 32 oz bottle of Gatorade with a 28 oz bottle…for the same price. Pepsi also messed with their Gold Peak Tea brand. They reduced their half gallon bottles (64 oz) of iced tea to 59 oz.
  1. 🧈 Shady Stuf - Butter alternative brand Smart Balance reduced the vegetable oil content in their product by 40% to save costs. However, customers revolted against the change and they switched it back. Lastly, although company bigwigs deny any funny business, Double Stuf Oreos have decreased in weight by 6%.

🔥Bottom line: We can deal with a few less tissues in the box, but don't come for our Oreos. You don't want to see us when we're hangry for some properly stuffed cookies. Did you know that a yuge amount of purchased gift cards go unused? Catch up on the juicy details here
