Every day, loads of little kids look up at the sky and dream about what it would be like to actually travel between the stars. Okay, let’s be real - a bunch of adults dream about that, too. The cool thing about living in the 21st century is that it’s actually a dream that is achievable!
And Washington State is leading the way there.
Here are Five Fast Facts about the aerospace industry in Washington State:
- 🚀 The Place To Be - Washington State is generally considered the best state in the country for all things aerospace. It’s #1 in aerospace employment as well as sales and exports, has the largest supply chain and over 1500 aerospace-related suppliers and vendors, and has more aerospace engineers than the Starship Enterprise.
- ✈️ Washington Knows Bo - Literally every Boeing airplane that begins and ends with a “7” has been built in Washington State, including the 737, 767, and more. Oh, also that little thing called Air Force One.
- 💰 Big Money - In 2023, the aerospace industry generated over $71 billion in revenue, turning about a third of that back around into the state’s own economy as income. Cha-ching, baby!
- 👏 Big Jobs - Aerospace provides around 200,000 jobs in the state, which is around 10% of the total across the country, and second only to California.
- 📈 More Expansion - One great example of success in the aerospace industry is Collins Aerospace, a tech company that delivers numerous products and services. They recently broke ground on a 70,000 foot expansion to their Spokane carbon brake facility. This adds 50% more capacity to meet future market demand, and will add 80 new jobs. Are we the only ones excited about the prospect of more aerospace demand??
🔥Bottom line: It’s great to see that at least some industries are booming! It’s also great to know that if you’re one of those kids (or adults) dreaming of the stars, you’re in the right place, right here at home!
