Deck the halls with fun extracurricular activities! 🥳🌲 Whether you're a PA resident or visiting from out of state, there's plenty of fun things to see and do throughout the month of December. 🗓️
Pennsylvania winters are notoriously chilly and there's always the chance of a blizzard around the corner. 🥶 Before the weather outside gets too frightful, pack up the family and head to one of these amazing December destinations! 🚙
Here’s five great PA places to visit this December:
- 🎄 Philly's Christmas Village - Every year from mid-November through Christmas Eve, Philly's Christmas Village takes center stage. All around Love Park in Center City, you'll find tons of great vendors, local food and drink, and live performances. There are even themed events to check out every weekend. Pro tip: weekdays are much less busy.
- 💡 The Cascade of Lights - Northwestern PA's Cascade of Lights is one of the best drive-through Christmas light displays of all time. You'll find it in New Castle's Cascade Park, which gets completely taken over by awe-inspiring holiday displays. It's open Thursdays through Sundays throughout December.
- ❄️ Christkindl Market - If you're craving a taste of Germany, head to the borough of Mifflinburg in Central PA to see the Christkindl Market. This authentic German Christmas Market has everything from tasty food and handmade goods to love music and much more. If you want to catch this market, mark your calendars because it's only held December 14th through the 16th. Admission is free.
- 🚣 Washington Crossing - History buffs will definitely want to check out the reenactment of Washington crossing the Delaware River. Although the main reenactment is held on Christmas Day (just like the real deal back in 1776), you can also check out the dress rehearsal on December 10th. The event is held at Washington Crossing Historic Park in Upper Makefield Township. After the event, don't miss out on the park's special colonial-era activities.
- 🚂 Holiday Train Display - Fans of model trains need to take a December day trip to the Western PA Model Railroad Museum near Pittsburgh. There, you'll find a pretty major Holiday Train Display your family will remember forever. While you're there, check out all of the other great displays at the museum, including an impressive recreation of the railroad journey through the Great Allegheny Passage.
🔥Bottom line: The holidays are all about spending time with loved ones. Why not take a little field trip and see some of the winter sights around the Keystone State? If you're feeling extra jolly, stop for some hot cocoa along the way.
