There’s a growing movement toward a four-day work week, and it’s been a success for both employers and employees. That’s right: a four-day, 32-hour work week with no reduction in pay could become a reality.🤯
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Four-Day Work Weeks:
- 🧪 Testing - There were two six-month trials in 2022 that used 33 companies and 903 employees with the 100-80-100 model. Workers got 100% of their pay for working 80% of the time with 100% of their usual output.
- 📅 Keep It Up - A jaw-dropping 92% of the companies involved said they’re permanently implementing the four-day work week. For the remaining 8% two companies are extending their trials and three are “pausing.” That’s basically shorthand for “giving you hope for something that won’t happen.”
- 🤗 Results - The companies (along with businesses who have already adopted the practice) say the four-day work week increased productivity, morale, and team culture. Workers said they have better health, finances, and relationships! In fact, one company said productivity increased by 22%, job applications are up 88%, and absenteeism is down 66%.
- 🙅♀️ The Best Part - When asked, 15% of the employees who participated said there’s no amount of money that would make them go back to a five-day week.
- 😤 Naysayers - Critics do say a four-day work week could cause problems for customers who would have one less day to interact with the business or services. But…maybe they would adjust, too.
🔥Bottom line: We live to work in this country. It’s been hammered into our brains and tied to just about everything we do in our daily lives. The fact that some employers are realizing quality is better than quantity shows that they’re finally starting to get it. But as we know, most companies don’t trust their employees, so seeing this happen on a national scale may never become a reality.
