If you made it through 2023 without hearing about AI taking over the world, we'd love to know which rock you've been hiding under. More importantly, is there room for us?! 🤪🤖
The U.S. economy had one wild year and the job market's been crazy since the pandemic. 💼 While the world's still in recovery mode, technological changes are causing a big stir. Wondering what 2024 has in store for your career? 🤔 Here are some stats from recent surveys.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on 2024 job trends:
- ⚙️ Shifting Gears - One report revealed that between 2019 and 2022, there were 8.6 million job shifts in the labor market. That's a whopping 50% more than the prior three-year period. The report also estimates another 12 million shifts could arrive by 2030.
- 🦾 It's Getting Bot in Here - A report from the World Economic Forum (WEF) predicts that by 2027 there could be 26 million fewer jobs in bookkeeping, executive secretarial work, administration, and similar job areas.
- 💻 Parts Unknown - While the robots will replace entire jobs in some cases, they'll also replace parts of jobs in others. Because of AI and other technological advancements, some jobs could expect to lose 30% of hours worked to automation by 2030.
- 🔥 Hot Jobs Alert - According to the WEF, AI and machine learning specialist jobs were the fastest-growing gigs in 2023. Sustainability specialist jobs (think: renewable energy) are also on the rise as the world continues to go green.
- 📋 Thrill of the Skill - All of these changes will require companies to upskill their current workforce, but many are underprepared. WEF data shows that six out of 10 workers will need training before 2027, but only half have access to adequate training opportunities today.
🔥Bottom line: The times, they are a-changing and AI is here to stay. Instead of living in fear, why not roll with the changes? Getting ahead of the trend and brushing up on new tech skills might just land you a promotion in the new year. Need more tips on how to deal with your coworker, Petty Betty?
