Federal resources

90 percent of Americans will get a direct payment from Uncle Sam now that Congress has passed the largest ever relief package due to the economic fallout from COVID-19. Taxpayers earning less than $75,000 will get a direct deposit of $1,200 each, and married couples earning up to $150,000 will get $2,400 (every taxpayer will get an additional $500 per child regardless of their marriage status). Read more on direct payment terms.

The government has also expanded unemployment insurance by 13 weeks, and unemployment benefits have been enhanced for four months. Americans currently applying for unemployment will get an additional $600 per week on top of what state unemployment already pays. Additionally, unemployment benefits are now available to freelancers and gig workers like Uber and Lyft drivers. Sign up for emergency unemployment benefits alerts from the Department of Labor and Training.
