Michigan Ski Industry is ready to hit the slopes!

The Summer of 2020 saw a record number of people heading to the great outdoors for fun and recreation. The lockdowns and stress related to COVID pushed many people away from the cinemas and concerts and instead to the trails and forests.

Local Ski resorts and sporting goods stores are hoping the trend continues as people look to the mountains for skiing and snowboarding. People are already hoping for massive amounts of snow in the forecast and lots of gear being sold in anticipation of a great ski season.

This also means big bucks as the winter sports account for a $20.3 billion national industry. As a matter of fact, $408 million was spent in Northwest Michigan in 2018 on recreation alone! Another $409 million was spent on food and beverages and $571 million on lodging.

The beautiful Grand Traverse County led the 10-county regional area with an estimated $465 million in visitor spending. It was followed by Emmet County at $400 million.

So, lots of people are hoping to cash in on increased recreation this winter!

We will keep you posted on all the outdoor related activities!
