Coffee Shop Closes After Fighting Mask Mandate

A coffee shop in Middleton, WI has lost its lease after a battle over having to wear masks in the restaurant. Helbachs Coffee was given three big citations by the Public Health Madison and Dane County for violating the county’s public health order and not following the requirement to wear face coverings indoors.

Naturally, the coffee shop sued the city, the county, and the local officials earlier in August. Helbachs rejected the mask requirement after calling itself a “mask-free zone.”

Well, it didn’t seem to work because all of that added up to the shop’s landlord deciding that it would be better to NOT renew the lease for the coffee shop. Helbachs will close their shop August 31st.
