Coronavirus Vax Made in Michigan Gets “Fast Track” Status
July 16, 2020
Michigan is known globally as a manufacturer of all things steel and motorized. Locally, we also know that companies like Pfizer develop groundbreaking medical treatments like the new COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is still in the works but the FDA has put it on the “Fast Track” which speeds up the review process.
The designation was granted based on preliminary data from the initial clinical studies in the U.S. which seem promising. If the studies are successful, and the vaccine receives regulatory approval, the companies making the vaccines expect to manufacture up to 100 million doses by the end of 2020 and potentially more than 1.2 billion doses by the end of 2021!
The initial manufacturing is taking place at Pfizer’s plant in Kalamazoo County before it goes to other Pfizer facilities around the country. So, Michiganders won’t only be exporting cars in 2020 but also life saving medicines, too!
